So when you get to sewing, you face the colossal task of, well, sewing! However, what turns out to be so hectic may give a result that satiates your thirst for creativity on your cloth. Achieving this feat also has a clause though; one ought to take some measures to ensure that the right patch is woven at the right place and that everything is in place. That is not all; one also needs to know what the long arm quilting is and how A Long Arm Quilting Machine Can Help You Deliver the Best of Patchwork.

Here are some of the very useful tips that may help you give amazing results with a calm mind.

1. Avoid stretching of fabric

Fabric, if stretched, may give a bad look to your overall finished material and can reduce the life of your fabric. Hence, to reduce the stretch, it is suggested to spray some fabric starch before cutting them into segments that would prevent stretching of the fabric.

2. Prevent shifting of fabric

Even if you have applied fabric spray to prevent stretching, place sandpaper under the cloth material to keep it from shifting while marking sewing lines or tracing appliqué shapes.

3. Visit the local market.

Quilting has been made easier with many tools available in the market for the purpose of patchwork and quilting. Keep a tab on the local quilt shop to stay updated with the latest entries of tools for long arm quilting machines that may make quilting an easier job for you. Sewing Machines

4. Clean it where it is.

If you plan on cleaning your quilt, make sure you do it that place it has been kept otherwise it may be exposed to wear and tear. A simple dusting with a vacuum cleaner might be enough to make your quilt bright and shining.

5. Alternate your patch.

During piecing, when you stitch each patch to your quilt, keep in mind to alternate the ends of the patch. This would help contain distortions, a common problem when piecing together patches or strips. Computerized Sewing and Quilting Machine

6. Go for cotton.

If you think of quilting, there is not point if the fabric you use is not cotton. A 100% pure cotton fabric works best for patching a long lasting quilt instead of fabric that is anything but cotton.

7. Same rule(r) for each quilting session.

Keep it a rule to use the same ruler for each quilting session as rulers differ variably in their measurements as per the brand. The deftness of a long arm quilting machine is of no use if there are measurements of each patch. Quilting Supplies

Sewing machines are fun. If you have a sewing machine, you have the power to make many wonderful apparel, furniture covers, fun toys, and much more. Whether you are new to sewing or you’re a pro, one thing is a must, you have to have a very good sewing machine if you’re going to be sewing. Sewing machines vary on performance, ease of use, and even customer service. Your sewing machine company must have good customer service because if you run into any issues with your sewing machine, you want to be able to contact them so you can fix your sewing machine. Also, you are going to want a sewing machine that is not going to cost you a fortune. There are many great sewing machines you can pick from that will not ruin your wallet.

When you are picking out your new sewing machine, you must check to see if it can sew a basic stich on satin fabric, cotton, suede, upholstery fabric, heavy cotton fabric, light wool or heavy wool, denim, cotton jersey, fleece, corduroy, silk charmeus, and chiffon silk. The reason why you need to make sure it can stitch on all of these fabrics is because you do not know if in the future you will be using your sewing machine to sew any of these types of fabrics. Your sewing machine must be versatile and it must be able to handle any fabric you decide to use. You don’t want to be stuck with a sewing machine that can just sew on cotton because what if in the future you decide to sew a gorgeous denim jacket or a beautiful silk skirt. You also need to check whether your sewing machine can sew through multiple layers of cotton, cotton jersey, and denim. If it can then you will have found a durable sewing machine that will be able to handle many projects you might encounter. Will you be using your sewing machine to create quilts in the future? If so you need to ensure your sewing machine can sew a quilt swatch. Many people who start sewing do not think of future projects because when they are just getting started they don’t realize how easy sewing is and that you can progress quickly to making a jersey dress or perhaps even a quilt for a present. Depending on quilting a person expects to do and how much time you'd like to spend, an appropriate machine can cost less than $200 all the way up to $10,000 and more. Relax - most quilters are near the low end of this range. At the lowest end, you don't even need a machine at all. Despite the many tedious hours, some people still prefer traditional hand quilting for true pride in workmanship. At the next step, conventional sewing machines are fine for most, if not all, of the stages of making a quilt. Then there's a big step up to long-arm quilting machines, typically costing $1,000 to $2,000. Frames that move the machine and quilt can easily cost just as much. Finally, there are computerized and mechanized machines that can complete a quilt almost by themselves.

Essential stages of quilt making and the demands they place on quilting sewing machines.

Squares

The first step is making the individual squares. These can be almost any shape, and many people consider this to be the most creative step. Quilters can select various materials, colors, and fabric patterns, add embroidery and more.

This stage of quilting makes the least demands on the machine. Just about any good quality sewing machine will be fine. And if you're especially creative you might even do this by hand. Some people enjoy machines that can do embroidery patterns. Although more expensive than a basic machine, nowadays the added cost is relatively small, and the machines are quite easy to use. Piecing

The next stage is putting all the pieces (squares) together. This is also quite creative as you combine colors and textures into patterns for the overall quilt. Here hand quilting can become quite tedious, but low-cost sewing machines are just fine. A table extension accessory can be handy, making it easier to maneuver things as the pieced quilt grows bigger and bigger. A long-arm machine is a bit more convenient here, but not a huge advantage.

Quilting

The final stage is the quilting itself - combining the beautiful top layer with batting and a bottom layer. This involves a huge number of fairly regular stitches, so it's truly tedious to do this by hand. Almost everyone does some machine quilting here. It's this stage that puts the greatest demands on a quilting sewing machine. Most, but not all sewing machines can handle final quilting. The must have at least one quilting stitch and a quilting foot (which can often be added as a separate accessory). Sewing Cabinet

But with regular sewing machines, it can be time-consuming and a bit frustrating to manage the huge quilt under the small reach of the sewing head. Here's where long-arm machines shine, making this stage a whole lot easier. Having a frame that slides the machine one way and rolls the quilt the other way can make this final stage a breeze. But at thousands of dollars (and more), you need to be doing a lot of quilts to justify the cost. Many people do the squares and piecing themselves than pay someone a couple of hundred dollars to do the final quilting for them.

Choosing Your Machine

As you might expect, most people go for the lower-cost machines. It's important to choose a brand and model that's reliable, rugged, and has the stitches and feet you'll need. The singer is, of course, the best know brand. Other brands with good models for quilting include Brother, Janome, Juki, and Pfaff. A quilting sewing machine also needs to have enough power to handle the thick stack of front fabric, batting, and back fabric. If the model can handle denim and other heavy sewing tasks it should be fine. But make it a point to look for customer reviews with an eye out for those that mention quilting.
